Essentium’s the HSE™ 240 HT Dual Extruder 3D Printer, designed in collaboration with M3 Design, wins an iF Product Design award in the Industry / Tools category.
Essentium’s HSE 240 HT 3D Printer, designed in collaboration with product development firm M3 Design, has won an iF Product Design award in the Industry / Tools category. With improved usability and access at the heart of its innovative design, the HSE 240 won over the 132-member jury of independent design experts from all over the world. The competition was intense: almost 11,000 entries were submitted from 57 countries in hopes of receiving the seal of quality.
Essentium brought M3 on board to help create a printer that would maximize the performance, reliability, and efficiency of parts production – but within a smaller footprint, at a lower cost, and in a more user-friendly way. Designed to meet the needs of even the most demanding industries, the HSE 240 allows manufacturers to enter the digital age by enabling additive manufacturing (AM) applications that make significant improvements in productivity, growth and innovation capability.
“Our staff are daily users of 3D printers, so when Essentium approached us with such an innovative vision for transforming the way people interact with additive manufacturing technology, we were thrilled,” said M3 Founder and President Terry Branson. “The M3 team is honored to have our work with Essentium be recognized for its success in expanding the possibilities of additive manufacturing technology through thoughtful and intentional design.”
The HSE 240’s physical form represents a marriage of manufacturing and consumer technology industries in both aesthetics and usability. The final direction was selected for its contrasting color panels that consolidate touchpoints that create a frictionless user experience. Lighting effects were designed to easily communicate job status and a camera was added to the build chamber to enable remote monitoring of print jobs. The HSE 240’s design also includes a unique open-source filament system and a convection-heat build chamber that can reach up to 185° C to allow users more freedom to innovate and experiment with materials.
“From the first meeting through the final phase of the project, M3 understood what we wanted to accomplish and translated those goals into a product that has both form and function. The team’s experience and expertise gave us a strong sense of trust in their ability to execute. It truly felt like a collaborative partnership,” said Blake Teipel, CEO of Essentium.
